Digital Signature. Identification validation can be obtained remotely

On August 19, 2024, Decree 743/2024 was published in the Official Gazette (hereinafter, “Decree”), amending Decree No. 182/2019 and authorizing the completion of procedures for issuing, renewing, and revoking digital certificates without requiring the physical presence of the applicant.

The regulatory change allows Licensed Certifiers to validate applicants’ identities through biometric methods and real-time verification services, using information from the National Registry of Persons. Previously, physical presence was an essential requirement for the issuance of these certificates.

This new regulatory framework aims to streamline administrative procedures, enhance the relationship between the administration and citizens, and leverage information technologies to simplify communications and processes within the public sector. The Secretariat of Innovation, Science, and Technology will be responsible for establishing the necessary regulations for the proper implementation of these provisions.
